Motorbike ride generates interest

The social motorbike ride planned for 4 March 2017 is generating a lot of interest.  “We have received quite a lot of calls and social media inquiries about the ride”, said ride organiser Andrew Ayres.  “The ride serves a couple of purposes.  Firstly, it’s just a great social outing if you love motorbikes and great roads.  Secondly, its a great way to either meet other cops who love bikes or show your support for what we do.”

The social ride serves another, more serious purpose as well, “It’s true that in the past, these rides have been an excellent way of connecting guys and girls who need connecting.  Not only does it give us a chance to help them professionally, but if gives them access to peers who are in the same boat.  Relationships are formed, and that’s great in terms of building a support base.”

If you would like to join the ride, email info@bluehope.org.au or call Bruce on 0411247424 or Andy on 0416839499.

QBCC raise $300 for Blue HOPE

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) are hosting a Blue HOPE Brunch on Wednesday the 15th of February 2017, but not all staff are able to attend on that day.  QBCC Commissioner, Brett Bassett said, “Our contact centre staff are not able to leave the phones to attend the official function, so they decided they wanted to host their own.”

And on Friday the 10th, the contact centre did just that, raising a whopping $304 for Blue HOPE.

Commissioner Bassett said the overwhelming support for Blue HOPE was a reflection of a grateful attitude his staff have for law enforcement, “We recognise the enormous sacrifice police officers make for the community.  This is our small way of saying thanks.”  “Blue HOPE do an amazing job and we are proud of the fact that one of our staff volunteers his time to such a wonderful organisation.”

Danny Butler – You Bloody Legend!

Danny Butler – You Bloody Legend!

Danny Butler is an unassuming bloke.  He is not a big-noter, he just goes about his business.  And his business (other than being a dedicated and respected member of the QPS Public Safety Response Team) is swimming.

Dan is swimming the English Channel in September this year, and wants to use the event to raise awareness for Blue HOPE and mental health issues for police officers globally.

Blue HOPE is supporting Dan to achieve his lifetime goal, and that all starts this month when Dan swims the Rottnest Channel in Perth, which acts as a qualifying event for the English Channel.

While in WA, we will be speaking to recruits at the police academy in Perth and presenting at a mental health awareness conference.

SiXTY4SiXTY –Put your money where your heart is

We’ve been told it can’t be done.

Police Unions and high-ranking police have told us that rank and file members won’t support us. We are going to put that theory to the test because we believe that there are some who seriously under-estimate how strongly police feel about the need for an alternative to current support mechanisms.

“The Darkness Within” – A reflection by Jason

[WARNING – MAY CONTAIN TRIGGERS]

That they died instantly was the only consolation I could take from the tragic events that unfolded. My wife, my son and my daughter, all dead, in a horrific car crash. I’d known the details of when it would occur, how it would happen and even the location for what seemed like years but had been unable to tell anyone about it. Imagine, if you can, the level of despair one would feel knowing all of the above. Those most precious to you, gone in the blink of an eye, whilst you lived with the dreadful secret that could have prevented it all from happening.

Blue HOPE (Helping Out Police Everywhere)

SHANE Dall’osto was an outstanding police officer and an even better bloke. He went to work early one day and turned his police-issue gun on himself.

His death rocked the Queensland Police Service – and no one more than his colleague Bruce Graydon.
